Why I Created Digital Marketing 101 for Latinas
Hi, I’m Heidy De La Cruz — an award-winning podcast host, writer, podcast coach, and now the creator of a brand-new solo podcast, Digital Marketing 101 for Latinas. This blog post is based on my very first episode, and I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself, share my journey, and explain what you can expect from this new show and platform.
From Immigrant Stories to Digital Marketing
For the past three years, I’ve hosted The American Dream in The Eyes of Immigrants — a podcast where I interview immigrants about their journeys to the U.S. and the challenges and triumphs they’ve experienced. That show has been such a rewarding experience and has even won an award for Best Society & Culture Podcast in the Women in Podcasting Awards!
But this new podcast? It’s something totally different. It’s just me — no interviews — and I’ll be using it to share my knowledge from 10+ years of experience in the online space. I’ve done it all: blogging, launching products, coaching, creating digital content, and more. I’ve shared pieces of my journey across Medium, Substack, and my personal blog, but I never had one place to bring it all together… until now.
Why “Digital Marketing 101 for Latinas”?
Because digital marketing is how we promote ourselves and our businesses online — whether through blogs, social media, podcasts, email lists, or YouTube. And the truth is, I’ve been doing digital marketing for over a decade, even before I realized that’s what it was called.
This show is designed specifically for Latina women who want to start their own online businesses. I want to help you build something with purpose, create income, break generational cycles, and live life on your terms — even if it looks different from what your family or culture expected of you.
My Online Journey: The Quick Version
2014 – Launched my first blog as an online journal
2019 – Began freelancing and writing blog content for clients
2020-2021 – Created and sold journals on Amazon using Canva
2022 – Launched The American Dream in The Eyes of Immigrants podcast
2022 – Self-published my poetry book
2023 – Started podcast coaching, hosted masterclasses, and helped clients launch their shows
2024 – Took a step back from coaching to focus on healing after being diagnosed with PTSD
2025 – Relaunched my coaching with a new mission: helping Latinas launch and grow online businesses
Through all of this, I’ve learned what works (and what doesn’t), made mistakes, invested in coaching and courses, and kept pushing forward because I believe deeply in the power of online entrepreneurship.
